New rail trail connection in Victoria’s South being pursued
Funding for a Rail Trail extension from Woolamai to Nyora will be sought by the South Gippsland and Bass Coast Shires, to connect the Bass Coast Rail Trail and Phillip Island to the Great Southern Rail Trail.
Both shires have voted in favour of a funding application for the 25 km extension, which forms part of the Gippsland Odyssey – a 1,100 km network of tracks and trails being developed by six regional councils across Gippsland.
Notably, this proposed extension of the Bass Coast Rail Trail will complement the recently-funded extension of the eastern end of the Great Southern Rail Trail from Welshpool to Alberton, and beyond to Yarram. This will enable a continuous Rail Trail journey from Wonthaggi to Yarram (via Nyora) of approximately 183 km in distance!

The feasibility and design ($375k I think) has just been announced by the Vic Government before they went into caretaker mode.
