A new section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) has recently opened from Moore to the historic Moore Linville Cemetery. Up until now the rail trail between Moore and Linville along this two kilometre section has gone off-formation (diverted away from the original rail line corridor) as the corridor there had been subsumed into a local farm. The diversion directed trail users over a steep hill, with a gnarly track, located north of the rail corridor and the Moore Linville road. Earlier this year, the Trail Manager (Qld Department of Transport & Main Roads) reclaimed the corridor and engaged a contractor to create a trail on the two kilometres of original corridor from Moore. This is the final off-formation section of the 161km rail trail to be realigned back on to the actual rail corridor.
An attractive installation utilising old rail goods wagons, complete with mural, has been created at the former Moore Rail Station. Extensive fencing, drainage and multiple stock grids and gates have been installed permitting the farm to continue its operation whilst allowing public access back on the corridor. New signage has been installed on this section and the environment and trail users will benefit from significant tree planting either side of the trail. The trail surface is an all weather compacted gravel.
From Moore the new trail continues to the entrance of the cemetery, where trail users cross the road and rejoin the existing on-formation rail trail to Linville. Also, new public amenities blocks have been constructed at Moore and Linville. The facility at Moore has coin operated showers. Both structures have decorative laser-cut metal screens adorning the facades. This is a very popular part of the BVRT and trail users will greatly appreciate the new trail and new facilities.
