At the end of November 2015 the Scottsdale to Tonganah section of the North East Tasmania Rail Trail was officially opened As part of this work the trail surface for the existing section from Tonganah to Billycock Hill was also upgraded.
So there is now 26km of good standard rail trail traversing picturesque farming land and amazing fern filled forest to enjoy.
Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Scottsdale and the people that contributed 3000 hours of voluntary labour to make this a reality. The Tasmania Community Fund provided funding and the Dorset Council provided some assistance.
Following the announcemtn of $1.47m in federal government funding, the Dorset Council is also working on extending the rail trail 70km back to Launceston.
