The City of Onkaparinga is reconstructing the shared use bridge section of the Coast to Vines Rail Trail (South Australia) between Seaford Meadows and Noarlunga Downs.
The bridge forms part of the Coast to Vines Rail Trail and is heavily used by the community, however the existing timber deck, balustrade and handrail require replacement to ensure the ongoing safety of all users. The site also has cultural significance and therefore the construction will be delivered without any excavations occurring on the riverbanks.
The deck will be replaced with new recycled plastic and the balustrade and handrails will be galvanised steel. Given the steel substructure is in good condition and was originally built to hold rail, we are retaining it to support the new deck and handrail.
Once the upgrade has been completed, the bridge will be accessible for pedestrians, cyclists and horses and will meet Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements.
Bridge Design inclusions:
• The bridge width will be 3m
• The deck will be made from certified non-slip materials and suitable for pedestrians, cyclist and horses
• DDA compliant
• The use of recycled materials such as recycled plastic or a recycled plastic and timber composite
PLEASE NOTE THAT DURING CONSTRUCTION THE BRIDGE WILL BE CLOSED.
