Register for news updatesOverpass for South Australia’s Westside Rail Trail
The final design for the Main South Road tunnel project (Torrens River to Darlington) includes an overpass for the Westside Bikeway Rail Trail.
This overpass will cross over Main South Road from Deacon Avenue to James Congdon Drive, providing a convenient and safe option for users as it eliminates the lengthy delay at the traffic light crossing on the existing intersection.
The design also incorporates additional shared use paths along landscaped sections of South Road which will improve access to the Westside, Mike Turtur and Marino Rocks rail trails.
The River Torrens Linear Park Trail will still cross South Road using the existing shared use paths beneath the bridge over the river and the Mike Turtur Bikeway Railside Trail will continue to use the existing bridge over South Road. The Marino Rocks Rail Trail will not be affected as the South Road tunnel passes beneath this section.
Construction on the Torrens to Darlington project will commence in 2025 with completion anticipated in 2031.
