The Mike Turtur Rail Trail extends from the City of Adelaide Parklands to the coastal suburb of Glenelg, a distance of 9km. The northern end of the trail is a characterised by a difficult 285m of shared path sandwiched between the Adelaide to Glenelg tram line and King William Road. The path, which varies in width from 2.5m to 4m, has non-standard crossing points and includes a bus stop and shelter.
The City of Unley has adopted a detailed design for this section of King William Road which will include:
Once cyclists reach Greenhill Road, they will be able to cross at the traffic lights and then enter the Adelaide Parkland cycle path network to reach the Adelaide CBD.
This section of shared path experiences 850 bicycle movements and 1650 pedestrian movements daily.
The project is estimated to cost $3.67 million and will be undertaken once Government funding has been secured.
