Whether you’re travelling along a rail trail by foot, bike, or horse, you may look to the verges besides you and wonder: what’s going on there? If you’re lucky, there may be signs along the way, pointing out the species of birds or animals that live in that habitat you’re travelling through.
You may see new plantings (with their tell-tale protection guards), or evidence of serious weeding. You may see nothing but old gum trees, and laugh as bright parrots seem to try to race you as you ride, from tree to tree. Or you may stop, agog, to watch a cacophony of black cockatoos snacking on pine trees planted in the railway’s heyday.
