Ride2School 2021 for Heathcote on O’Keefe Trail in Victoria
Early morning light shone through the trees of One Eye Forest, highlighting young cyclists waiting on the O’Keefe Rail Trail. What were these riders about to do? It was an exciting time for Heathcote Primary Schools students as they they prepared to participate in the school’s official Ride2School activity for 2021.
With parents and friends watching, Principal Kate Ballantyne introduced the riders to Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail, volunteers who were helping with the ride, and reminded students to be aware of their responsibility for a safe ride.
There were smiles all around as the students rode along the rail trail, challenged only by the very slight gradients of the trail through the forest. With no wallabies or kangaroos sighted, the ride group was joined by younger student riders to cycle through the urban area of Heathcote.
On arrival at school it was time for a group photo — and off to the Breakfast Club for some — before classes began. A successful activity that’s sure to encourage more students to regularly ride to school.
