Register for news updatesThousands Flock To Sydney’s GreenWay Opening
Sydneysiders turned out in their thousands on Sunday 14 December 2025 to enjoy Sydney’s latest rail-side trail, the GreenWay, on its opening day.
The GreenWay is a 6km shared bicycle and pedestrian path that connects 2 of Sydney’s most popular trails, stretching from the Cooks River in Earlwood through the heart of Sydney’s inner west to the popular Bay Run on Parramatta River at Iron Cove.
The trail is fully paved and is suitable for all types of users. Features include 8 dedicated artworks, cultural and historical sites, picnic areas, several short tunnels, bike stands, cafes, bushcare sites and a range of parks, playgrounds and sporting facilities sitting alongside the path.
The new rail-side trail has been built adjacent to Sydney’s L1 light rail line between Dulwich Hill and Hawthorne light rail stops. The rail corridor was originally part of the Darling Harbour to Dulwich Hill goods line which closed in 2008.
