Walk for Autism on Great Victorian Rail Trail a Fundraising Success!
Some 126 walkers converged on the Mansfield end of the Great Victorian Rail Trail (GVRT) on Saturday 22 March to take part in the second Lake High Great Victorian Walk for Autism. The walk raised an impressive $30,800 for Mansfield Autism Statewide Services’ expansion of services for autistic children and families at their Mansfield campus.
The majority of teams took on the 30 km challenge from Woodfield to Mansfield, while the 15 km teams walked to Mansfield from Maindample
Event Manager Judy Dixon said over half the walkers came from around Victoria, booking accommodation and making a weekend of it. “Some came because they had a family connection to autism and to our service, others because it’s a great social cause that touches so many. Plenty of walkers came simply because it’s a fabulous excuse to make a weekend of it in Mansfield’s High Country while being active and social,” she said.
The highest fundraising team went to the Delatite Drivers Car Club raising $3,783 followed closely by Happy Feet, a big team from Melbourne who took on the 30 km challenge with gusto, raising $3,500.
