Online adventure publication We Are Explorers has included 9 rail trails in its recently published list of “13 Best Overnight Bikepacking Routes in Victoria”.
Bikepacking has boomed recently, with cyclists packing what they need – clothing, bike spares, food, cooking equipment and camping gear – on the frames of their gravel bikes (usually in frame or fork bags rather than panniers) and heading out for an overnighter. As the story says: “There’s something magical about strapping everything you need to a bike and heading off to somewhere you’ve never been before”.
Included in the top 5 are: The Great Victorian Rail Trail (2), The Bellarine Rail Trail (4) and the East Gippsland Rail Trail. Read which others are included here. They do ask: “Did we miss any?” So if you believe they did, let We Are Explorers know!
