The Mount Gambier Rail Trail in South Australia is unique with its 8km length traversing from the eastern to the western side of the city as it passes through the centre of the city. It is the perfect cycling and walking corridor for commuting and recreation purposes within an expanding rural city.
It also houses a community park in the centre of the city and connects to many of the city’s tourist sites.
The City of Mount Gambier is determined to make the rail trail an even more valued community asset and has recently secured $800,000 in Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program funding to instal solar lighting along the Rail Trail and to construct a 2.1km link between the rail trail and the TAFE College and University.
The project will ensure that the rail trail’s popularity can continue to grow through usage in the evening and early morning. The shared use path connection between the TAFE College and University will also improve access in the city’s high growth residential area.
