A DAY ON THE RAIL RESERVE
EVENT: cycling and walking between Hamilton & Wannon on the Rail Reserve (SORRY NO DOGS OR HORSES & REMEMBER TO LEAVE GATES AS YOU FIND THEM)
DATE: 16th February 2013
EQUIPMENT: A hybrid or mountain bike, sensible walking shoes water, snacks, sunscreen and a walking or cycling buddy. Please note the trail is still in a rough condition and a mountain bike is preferred.
TIME: Walking from 9.00 AM, Cycling from 10 AM, with lunch at the Wannon Falls.
START: Balkin’s Rd crossing, park your car under the pine trees on the intersection of Fairburn’s & Glenelg Hwy, then ride down Balkin’s rd (1.8 km) to the start of the ride on the Rail Reserve. (See lower right of map.)
LUNCH: From 12.30 to 2.00pm at Picnic shelter near the falls, pack your togs and a towel for a swim at the old weir. (See top left of map.)
BYO: lunch (leave your esky at the start to be delivered to Wannon for lunch)
TRANSPORT OPTIONS:
- Ride back to Hamilton along the trail.
- Arrange for a friend or family member to have a vehicle at the Wannon Scenic Reserve for you to get home. If you have a bike mount, fit that to the vehicle so you can take the bike. If the vehicle has been left at the Wannon for you, remember to take the key when you ride!
- There will be trailer and vehicle transport at the Wannon Reserve to take all bikes (and riders) that need it back to Hamilton or their starting point on the Rail Trail – after 2 pm.
- a shuttle car will also be available at Wannon Falls to transport walkers back to their cars.
LUCKY GATE PRIZE: two gift vouchers from Bellcourt Books, Hamilton worth $50.00 each, to be collected by one lucky adult and one lucky child this will be drawn at 1.30pm at the lunch stop.
