Rail Trails Australia (RTA) is calling on members and supporters to write to the Mayor of the Southern Grampians Shire to ask the shire to get behind the Hamilton to Coleraine Rail Trail. The trail, located in Western Victoria, has tremendous potential but needs further investment to improve its surface and signage and to close a gap at the Wannon River crossing.
This trail is well worth visiting for walkers and mountain bikers with a sense of adventure and a love of nature.
The first section of trail is from the outskirts of Hamilton to Wannon-Nigretta Falls Road. This section traverses a number of working farms through pleasant red gum country.
The second section commences on the Glenelg Highway, 3km west of the hamlet of Wannon.
There is a gap in the trail currently where the railway line crossed the Wannon River. This requires cyclists and walkers to detour via the busy Glenelg Highway.
We need your help!
The Hamilton to Coleraine Rail Trail needs a leg up to reach its tremendous potential. An email from you to the local council will provide impetus to make improvements.
RTA requests that members and supporters e-mail the Mayor of Southern Grampians Shire, Cr Bruach Colliton at bc*******@st**********.au
Please send a copy of your email to ca*******@ra********.au . You may also wish to copy other councillors at Southern Grampians Shire.
