Register for news updatesMore North East Victorian Rail Trail Road Crossing Improvements
The road crossing upgrades on several north east Victorian rail trails outlined in our May News item have been completed.
The good news is that more road crossings are to be upgraded as part of the Road Safety Program Rail Trail Cycling Separation Project.
The safety improvement works are funded as part of the Victorian and Australian Government Road Safety Program and delivered by Regional Roads Victoria in Hume Region. The works will be where rail trails intersect with the road, to help improve the visibility and safety of the rail trail crossing points for all road users, particularly for cyclists and pedestrians.
The rail trails to receive improvements are the Murray to Mountains, Great Victorian and High Country Rail Trail.
The Road Safety Program is delivering improvements across a number of sites. Information on the project, including the list of sites to receive safety improvements can be found on the project webpage
Rail Trails Australia has provided some suggestions to improve the long term usability of these improvements including widening the bitumen seal around the chicane path.
