Register for news updatesO’Keefe Rail Trail Offically Opened to Heathcote (Victoria)
Following the unofficial opening of the 21km section of the O’Keefe Rail Trail from Axedale to Heathcote in August 2015, it was given the recognition that it deserves with an official opening in late December.
Over 100 people gathered at Heathcote to see the unveiling of the plaque commerorating this opening by Jacinta Allan, Member for Bendigo East and Minister for Public Transport and Employment, and Mayor Cr Rod Fyffe City of Greater Bendigo.
This officially brings the total length of the rail trail to a high quality 50km, as previous works in this project also included a big improvement to the existing Bendigo to Axedale section.
Congratulations to the Victorian government and the City of Greater Bendigo, who contributed $1.9m and $1.3m respectively to this project. This project has seen a significant increase in the number of people getting out exercising and enjoying the countryside and regional towns. Congratulations also to community groups, particularly the Friends of the Bendigo Kilmore Rail Trail, which also have made a big contribution to the rail trail.
