Construction has started on an 80m “jetty-style” bridge across Dock One in Port Adelaide that will let visitors explore north from the Outer Harbor Rail Trail. The bridge is being funded by the state government’s Renewal SA program and Kite
Projects, who are building a housing development on the northern side of Dock One. The bridge is expected to be completed by late 2024 so that work can start on the new residential area.
It is also proposed that an 8m wide waterfront promenade for pedestrians and cyclists will run from the new bridge to the Maritime Heritage precinct at Dock Two, home of the City of Adelaide clipper ship 500m away.
This shared-use path would constitute a rail trail as the new bridge and proposed promenade are located where a small locomotive used the pivoting Robinson Bridge (1883 to 1935) and waterfront rail tracks to transport goods between the docks and the Outer Harbor Railway.
