A very interesting and environmentally important project has commenced at the Waranga Basin. The Campaspe Shire Council, as part of its commitment to deliver the 11km extension of the rail trail, is working closely with the Goulburn Valley Association of Angling Clubs, GMW and the VFA, to re-use all large timber removed as part of the Murchison-Rushworth Rail Trail clearing activity for the Waranga Basin Fish Habitat project.
The timber clearing project will occur during October 2023 and it is the first stage of works for the rail trail, providing the required access for construction.
The native timber habitat will support the current high-quality Redfin fishery and an enhanced recreational fishery for Golden perch. The habitat plan is being lead by the Goulburn Valley Association of Angling Clubs (GVAAC) and is supported by The Wedge Group. The plan is to install native timber habitat into the Waranga Basin.
