Under sunny skies the Burnett River Bridges section of the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail (BBIRT) in central Queensland was opened in September 2022.
The first stage of the BBIRT was opened last year, and is a 26km long section between Barrimoon and Builyan. This section includes six tunnels and some excellent scenery.
This second stage is further south near Gayndah, and is between Reid’s Creek and Mundubbera, a distance of 39km, with the access point at the Mt Debateable station site. A large bridge over Reid’s Creek was washed away in huge floods in 2013, and is the missing link for the trail to go another 3.5km into the town of Gayndah.
The trail is a bit of an adventure experience at the moment as the volunteers have opened it at low cost to allow access to this scenic section while funding is sought to deck the many heritage listed bridges and improve the trail surface. Check out the trail description for more detail.
