The extension of the Mary Valley Rail Trail (MVRT) in south-east Queensland has taken some crucial steps forward in recent months. Currently Stage 1 of the MVRT spans a distance of 5 km, connecting Brooloo and Imbil. Since the development of Stage 1 by Gympie Regional Council (GRC) local advocacy group, Mary Valley Rail Trail Association Inc, has been in discussion with community, stakeholders, and all levels of government determined to realise their vision of a longer trail connecting Imbil with Kandanga and Amamoor, giving a total trail distance of 21 km.
GRC are very aware of the benefits that Rail Trails deliver to local communities, and have been positive with regard to extending the trail. Recently GRC secured tenure of the disused railway corridor between Imbil and Amamoor – a tangible and necessary bureaucratic step in trail extension. In addition, GRC are currently undertaking a Feasibility Study into the development of the Imbil to Amamoor sections of the MVRT. As part of the study an online survey is being conducted; all Rail Trailers are encouraged to participate and show your support for a bigger and better MVRT! There are also two drop-in sessions where community members can garner more information on the Feasibility Study. Details below:
Tuesday 19 September, Kandanga Public Hall 5-7pm
Wednesday 20 September, Imbil Memorial Hall 5-7pm
