The newly formed “Tallowwood Mountain Rail Trail” group has been busy in recent months, endeavouring to build a rail trail on a 35 km section of the disused Glenreagh to Dorrigo rail line.
Project manager, Karen Masson said the last few months have been very busy meeting with Local, State and Fed government representatives (the local MP’s are very supportive) and Mike Halliburton associates had given then great guidelines for funding, etc.
Ms. Masson said, “We had a group of volunteers, and a small excavator, clear approx. 10km on the southern end from Lowanna station so that we can send a surveyor in to define the property boundaries accurately (the last one was done in 1912). We have another licensed operator (volunteer) ready to use our excavator to clear the 4km to the tunnels from Glenreagh whenever it stops raining. Once complete, we plan to run ‘Open Days’ to raise awareness, show off the beautiful environment of this trail, keep the community informed, and raise some donations to help clear a path through the overgrown middle section of the corridor.
And we are currently working with another volunteer who has offered her time and skills to develop a professionally designed website. The support we are receiving from the community has been amazing, but we also have the usual sceptics, and train enthusiasts who are doing their best to derail the project.”
At the moment the group is looking for donations, as well as volunteers to help with this exciting project.

One comment on “Donations and volunteers sought for progressing the Glenreagh to Dorrigo Rail Trail”
This is a very encouraging development. From the Tallowood Mountain Rail Trail website "The 35km section of rail corridor (Glenreagh to Ulong), deteriorated beyond repair for any future rail operations…" The same statement would apply to the Ulong to Dorrigo section. It might take quite a while, possibly decades, but eventually the whole line will be a rail trail.
