Short trail link to Barossa Rail Trail
Posted on 23/04/22
A short trail link has recently been completed by The Barossa Council (in South Australia) at Sandy Creek. The 100m sealed path, costing some $30,000, runs alongside Williamstown Road and links the Barossa Rail Trail to the Barossa Valley Way. For rail trail users it provides safe off-road access to the historic Sandy Creek Hotel which is a convenient refreshment stop roughly half way between Gawler and Lyndoch.
Meanwhile work continues on the 2km Barossa Rail Trail extension between Kalbeeba and Gawler East. Earthworks are now mostly complete and ready for sealing. This welcome extension will link with existing cycle paths in Gawler East and will allow users to avoid the increasingly busy Calton Road. Completion of works is expected during May 2022.
