Sydney has a new railside trail, situated in the centre of the western suburbs. The Rosehill to Carlingford trail, which follows the northern section of the Clyde to Carlingford suburban railway line, was opened a few weeks ago.
The trail is 5km in length, fully paved and is suitable for all users, including prams and wheelchairs. It is easily accessed from Parramatta and has many local street connections. There is also a connection to the Parramatta River riverside cycling and walking path, enabling longer trips that take in Parramatta Park and Olympic Park.
The Carlingford railway line was closed in 2020 to make way for the new light rail line. Light rail services between Westmead and Carlingford will begin in 2024. Some rail heritage items have been preserved – the station building at Dundas will be a significant attraction.

One comment on “Sydney’s latest railside trail is open”
It's one of those places that I will return to regularly as it connects to so many places by cycleway and is scenic and enjoyable to ride.
Starting at Bella Vista I rode the M7, Prospect reservoir cycle way, the pipeline cycleway etc. to The Parramatta River cycleway and connected to The Carlingford Rail trail finishing at Meadowbank. A ride pretty much free of cars.
