Tumbarumba rail trail supporters were out on the trail again in June 2024, planting more trees – and in this case, some quite special trees.
Since the Tumbarumba to Rosewood section opened in April 2021, tree planting has been a major focus for the local Tumbarumba rail trail group to enlarge the green corridor along the Tumbarumba to Rosewood trail. In this latest instalment, the Glenroy station site was the focal point for their efforts. The June planting involved a special tree – they are Tasmanian cider gums, with an interesting history of their own in this Australian Geographic story. Visitors to the Tumbarumba rail trail will see numerous trail sections with newly-planted trees and shrubs.
Rail Trails Australia acknowledges the contribution of Bindi Vanzela from Happy Wombat Hazelnuts for propagating the trees that the Tumbarumba group planted, and we further acknowledge the efforts of Tumbarumba volunteers and the wider community of rail trail groups in local tree planting and rail trail maintenance.
