NSW State government reconfirms its commitment to Northern Rivers Rail Trail with funding boost
The Tweed Valley Rail Trail section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail in NSW had a funding boost from $6.5M to $7.8M when Tweed MP Geoff Provest confirmed funding and the NSW government’s commitment to building the Rail Trail.
This announcement gives certainty to both the Tweed Council and adjacent landowners allowing them to better plan for the future.
Legislation to formally close the rail line has been delayed further by the coronavirus pandemic but will go before the parliament later this year with hand over to council and construction start expected in early 2021.
This 24km section passes through scenic mountains and tunnels and will be the second rail trail on a NSW government rail corridor.
