Due to delays caused by Covid, the official opening of the history-making Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail finally took place on Saturday 10 April 2021.
Despite bleak weather around 500 people from all over NSW attended the official cutting of the ribbon at the Figures Street trail head in Tumbarumba. They enjoyed both the rail trail opening and the events all along the rail trail.
Opening celebrations included Tumbarumba Pipes and Drums (a Scottish bagpipe group), free cupcakes with the TRRT logo, children’s activities at the Glenroy and Rosewood station sites, a Rail Trails Australia display at Wolseley Park station site, and market stalls and bands at Rosewood. Cycling Without Ages trikes ferried local senior citizens along the rail trail – bringing back many memories of taking the train in years past.
The day was both the official rail trail opening and its first birthday, owing to previous planned openings being postponed due to Covid-19.
Finally NSW officially has its first rail trail on an ex-Government corridor, the first of many to come in NSW based on its undeniable success. Refer to a separate News item where we are promoting this success.
