The members of the Castlemaine Maryborough Rail Trail (CMRT) are continuing their planning and advocacy for funding and the development of the rail trail. Recently they have become aware of an issue that may impact on a section of the proposed trail. A planning application to build a broiler farm, next to the rail corridor where the rail trail is anticipated to run, has been lodged with the Central Goldfields Shire. If the planned facility goes ahead there will be a ‘bio-security zone’ declared around the broiler farm which could possibly limit or stop the use of about 1.5km of the rail trail in the Moolort Plains section.
As per the council planning process the application is now publicly available on the Central Goldfields Shire website. CMRT are inviting people to lodge an objection to the broiler farm proposal. Details about the broiler farm planning application can be found here https://www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/Your-Services/Services/Planning-and-Building/Planning/Advertised-Planning-Applications
The planning application number is D)22-23 3280 Pyrenees Highway, Carisbrook.
According to CMRT’s website news section there are a number of ways an objection can be made to Council. A person can object by email to
ma**@cg********.au
or by printing an objection form (to be printed and scanned). More information about how to place an objection can be found here https://www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/Your-Services/Services/Planning-and-Building/Planning/Objecting-to-a-Planning-Application
If a person wishes to send an objection to Central Goldfields Shire, CMRT have provided more information about the issue here https://cmrailtrail.org.au/broiler-farm-threat-to-rail-trail/
