- NSW and ACT
New South Wales
Currently the range of rail trails in New South Wales is limited, and the trails that are open are relatively short.
Several community groups in NSW country areas are pushing for the development of longer rail trails. The challenge unique to NSW is that rails remain in place on non-operational State-owned lines, and an Act of NSW parliament is required for the line to be officially closed for the land to be used for other purposes.
Rail Trails Australia is a strong advocate of faster progress in the development of rail trails in NSW.

The main rail trails, both open and potential, in NSW and ACT are shown on the map above. Choose a region for a complete list of trails.
