Construction to start on Castlemaine to Maldon Rail Side Trail
The Mount Alexander Shire has announced that a tender for the construction of the 18km Castlemaine to Maldon Rail Side Trail has been awarded for $802,028.
When completed cyclists and walkers will be able to traverse between the two historically significant towns of Castlemaine and Maldon, which are south west of Bendigo in nothern Victoria.
The Victorian State Government has funded the project to the amount of $1,011,000. The work will formalise and improve an existing informal route using maintenance and access tracks that runs parallel to the heritage Victorian Goldfields Railway between Catlemaine and Maldon.
It is anticipated that the construction will take about 3-4 months, and the project is planned to begin very soon subject to Victrack approval.
