The Friends of Canadian Creek situated in Ballarat, has received a $33,000 community bank grant. The grant is to build a section of the Bunny Rail Trail in Mt Clear, on the outskirts of Ballarat, Victoria. Works are to commence in July 2022.
The City of Ballarat has supported the project by purchasing land at 55 Recreation Road to make a Bushland Reserve with the “Bunny Rail Trail” to be built atop the old rail embankment on the property.
The new section will connect Mt Clear to Woowookarung Regional Park. The Bunny Rail Trail will eventually be part of a planned 33km “Forest River Loop” connecting Ballarat to Buninyong that will incorporate other trails including the Great Dividing Trail.
Currently the Bunny Rail Trail commences at the Eureka Centre in East Ballarat and runs for 0.75 km. The old rail alignment can be followed for a further 3km to the site of the new project. There are long term plans to complete the rail trail to Buninyong.
Meanwhile, rail trail supporters can enjoy a 13km loop that takes in historical aspects of the former railway alignment. You can download the “Catch the Bunny” brochure at the “Trail Guide” section for the Bunny Rail Trail on our website.
