Register for news updatesThe ‘missing section’ of the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail has finally been completed with the official opening of the new Thomson River Bridge on 30 June 2022. .

The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail stretchs 63km from Traralgon to Stratford and the new bridge is a milestone removing a 4km road diversion between Cowwarr and Heyfield that has existed since the rail trail opened; a great improvement.
Refer to the trail description for Gippsland Plains Rail Trail for the greatly improved map.
The volunteer committee of management are justifiably proud of the new bridge as they introduce it in their video below.
Please refer to the Media Release for written details of the opening.

One comment on “‘Missing section’ of Gippsland Plains Rail Trail now completed”
That is so good to finally move the trail off the road, I have done the old route and still loved it but this improvement is wonderful. It’s obvious you must have local metal fabricators, that looks like a one piece lift, that design could be used along many other rail trails missing bridges.
